Who We Are

The Bay Area housing crisis is over decades in the making and has only intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic with increased threat of evictions, foreclosures, and bankruptcy and rising interest rates.

Housing Is Your Right is a non-profit organization that focuses on providing resources to families and individuals experiencing financial difficulties which provides the tools to remain in their home.

Despite declines due to the pandemic, The Bay Area’s average rent is just under $3,000 and the median home sale price is $850,000. People of color are at a higher risk of housing insecurity due to the Bay Area’s history of racially targeted policies and widespread discrimination by the government and private sector.

The rate of foreclosures facing African American and Hispanic-Latino communities are growing in historic numbers.
